The selection of the repertory depends upon the case at hand. Every repertory follows its own philosophy and construction suitable for different types of cases. For the selection of a suitable repertory for a case, one must have knowledge about different types of repertories. Methods of Repertorization| Healthpathy

As per the underlying philosophy and construction of the repertories, different methods have evolved. Dr. B.K. Sarkar in his book, lectures in Homeopathy (1956) has described the following methods of working out the cases. These are as follows-

1 Hahnemannian and Boenninghausen’s Method:-

  • Applicable for cases with complete symptoms.
  • No mental symptoms, but only particular symptoms with associated concomitants.
  • For Example- A patient has severe nausea and vomiting in the morning and rises and is better with warm drinks. On further inquiry, we learn that he has noises in the ear and become concomitant symptoms.
  • In such cases, Boenninghausen’s repertory should come to our aid. This method is called Hahnemanian and Boenninghausen’s Method.

2. Kent’s Method:-

  • It is applicable in cases with general and particular symptoms.
  • Kent’s method of repertorization runs from general to particular symptoms, giving importance to mental symptoms.
  • It is one of the best and most commonly used methods.

3. Third Method:- Methods of Repertorization| Healthpathy

  •  In this method, Mental symptoms are lacking.
  • Only a physical general and a particular symptom such as lying on the left side gives relief to patients and palpitation of the heart on motion responsively is present.
  • In such cases, we may use any general repertory that is based on the anatomical division of the body. E.g. Kent’s repertory.

4. Fourth Method:-

It is used in cases where generals are lacking.

Selection of remedies is made on the basis of a striking peculiar symptom, say dryness of mouth without thirst and proceed by remedies differentiation with the help of other symptoms.

This method of finding a medicine with the help of a few symptoms is called the keynote symptom method.

5. Fifth Method:-Methods of Repertorization| Healthpathy

In the cases where the patient presents with a few common symptoms with pathological changes only and the following details will help in the selection of medicine:-

(i) Patient’s personal and family history.

(ii) Temperament

(iii) Complexion, color, and texture of the skin.

(iv) Particular organ and tissue affected.

(v) Location, character, and physical aspects of the lesion.

(Vi) probable cause of illness.

6. Sixth Method:-

  • In certain cases, patients only present the technical nosology without any symptoms or with vague symptoms.
  • This method of representation should not be encouraged as it is against the Homeopathic technique.
  • Thus, every case has its own dimensions which decide the selection of repertories and every repertory has its own method of repertorization.

It is said about repertory:-

” After all is said and done any repertory or any particular method of repertorization is only a help and a guide. One must have good Materia Medica knowledge and good work. It is not always possible to find the simillimum in a mechanical way”. Methods of Repertorization| Healthpathy
